Attraction Introduction：
Māgong City Wall — also known as "Penghu City" or "Guangxu City" — is the last official city wall built in Taiwan.
During the Sino-French War, Penghu was easily captured by French forces. After the peace agreement, Taiwan Governor Liu Mingchuan and Fujian-Zhejiang Governor Yang Changjun agreed on the need for military fortifications in Penghu. Under the supervision of General Wu Hongluo, construction was completed in 1889 (Guangxu Year 15).
The wall originally had six gates: Chaoyang Gate (East Gate, demolished), Jixu Gate (Small South Gate, demolished), Gongchen Gate (North Gate, demolished), Yingxun Gate (South Gate, demolished), Daxi Gate (now Zhongxing Gate), and Shuncheng Gate — the last two are the only remaining parts of the wall and are designated national historic sites. For a scenic view of Magong Harbor, climbing the watchtower atop Shuncheng Gate is a great choice!
